Clark Construction to Mentor Disabled Veterans in San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO, TX – November 16, 2009: Making a commitment to help men and women who have sacrificed for their country, Clark Construction will provide on-the-job employment mentoring to disabled military veterans this week, on Thursday November 19.
The event will be San Antonio’s first during Disabled Veteran Employment Mentoring Month. Enable America, a non-profit organization devoted to improving employment opportunities for disabled veterans and all people with disabilities, is working with Clark Construction on Thursday’s activities.
“Our programs have been proven to build bridges between people with disabilities and employers, and we’re proud to bring them to San Antonio,” said Richard Salem, founder and CEO of Enable America. “We look forward to working with great companies in San Antonio like Clark Construction, who understand how important this is.”
Enable America provides many services, but is focusing this month on helping disabled veterans find employment. In conjunction with Veteran’s Day, the organization has declared November to be Disabled Veteran Employment Mentoring Month, and is focusing increased efforts on organizing mentoring programs specifically for disabled veterans.
“Clark is very committed to working with Enable America and helping promote jobs and mentoring disabled veterans because they give so much to our country,” said John Omran, Executive Vice President of Clark Construction. “It is our duty to give back and do whatever we can to help provide opportunities, and show that life, opportunities and jobs are out there.”
Enable America has already signed up a number of military veterans for participation in the event, which will be held at the San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) offices located at Ft. Sam Houston.
The goal is to provide real-world experience in the workplace that can lead to employment.
“For a person with a disability, who has trouble finding a job, going to work for just a single day can be a tremendously rewarding experience, an experience that many of us take for granted,” Salem said.
San Antonio businesses who want to hold similar mentoring events for disabled military veterans, as well as people with disabilities who want to participate in Enable America events, are encouraged to contact Enable America through its web site, www.enableamerica.org, or by calling the group toll free at 1-877-ENABLED (1-877-362-2533). |
